Pogos—aka corn dogs—are one of the greatest achievements in human laziness.
Someone looked at a hot dog and said:
“This is too clean. Too practical. Let’s deep fry it in cake.”
And just like that… a legend was born.

Notes
- Make sure hot dogs are dry or batter won’t stick
- Keep oil temperature steady for best results
- Do not overcrowd the fryer

🔧 Step 1: Prep the Dogs
Pat your hot dogs completely dry.
This is the difference between:

- batter sticking
- batter sliding off like your last good idea
Stick ‘em on skewers.

🌀 Step 2: Mix the Batter
- Mix all the dry ingredients
- Add egg + milk
- Stir until it looks like thick pancake batter

⚠️ Pro tip:
If you use a drill with a whisk…
start slow… unless you want drywall seasoning in your pogos.
🔥 Step 3: Heat the Oil
Heat oil to 350°F (175°C)

Too cold = soggy sadness
Too hot = instant regret
🧀 Step 4: Dip & Fry
- Pour batter into a tall glass
- Dip the dog fully
- Straight into the oil

Fry 2–3 minutes until golden brown

🧻 Step 5: Drain & Serve
Drain on paper towel
Serve with:
- ketchup
- mustard
- or chaos (maple syrup… no judgment)

🎪 They took over fairs in the 1940s
Cheap, portable, deep fried…
Basically the perfect food for walking around making bad decisions.

🧠 Nobody agrees who invented them
Some say Texas.
Some say German immigrants.
Some guy probably just dropped a hot dog in batter by accident and went:
“…we’re keeping that.”
The idea is actually European
Battered sausage has been around for a long time.
Pogos are just the North American upgrade: add a stick and remove dignity.

🧪 The batter is basically cake
That crispy coating?
It’s closer to cake than bread.
So yeah…
You’re eating a deep-fried dessert hot dog.
Korea absolutely outdid everyone
They added:
- cheese
- fries on the outside
- sugar dusting
At this point it’s not even a pogo anymore… it’s a lifestyle.
🔚 Final Thoughts
This easy homemade pogo recipe gives you:
- crispy coating
- soft inside
- way better flavor than frozen
If it’s edible…
👉 It’s successful
